No problem. If you have an idea but don't have to have a team yet, make sure to apply. Other students will apply as team members. During the onboarding phase, we will help you to build a competent team to ensure that your venture has the necessary skills and expertise. However, if you have a team already, whether it is complete or not, you and your team member can apply individually, one as the idea holder, the others as team members.
We are not only looking for those who already have a great start-up idea, but also for students who want to join the idea of someone else. Therefore, if you want to be part of a young, dynamic team and create a start-up from scratch, make sure to apply. All team members with their special knowledge and skills are just as incremental as the idea holder.
The decision process consists of two stages. First, the idea holders publish their ideas on cofoundme.org, by means of a Facebook challenge that is linked to cofoundme.org, everyone can vote for his favourite idea. The ranking of the likes and shares will determine the ten best ideas. Out of those, the START Incubator Team will pick the three most promising ones and invite them to the START Odyssey.
Based on your motivation, the feasibility of the idea, it’s market potential, innovation, and impact we will choose the winning three ideas.
Since we are a non-equity and non-profit program, we won’t take any equity when you decide to actually found the start-up. We are just here to give you a platform for the realisation of your idea – all we want from you is your commitment.
Since this will be a very intense trip, you need to show a lot of determination, perseverance and especially motivation. The ultimate goal is to have a prototype, a venture concept, a design and a pitch ready by the end of those ten days – this goal will not be realistic, if you don’t commit 100 %!
The program is free of charge, we take care of your accommodation, food and beverages, and more. The only part you need to organize is your flight ticket to Berlin for the Odyssey.
All Team Members who are currently enrolled in an educational institution are welcome to participate. After the selection of the ideas, the idea-holder and Team Members will be matched. It is up to the Idea-Holder to decide who joins his team. The START Team will facilitate this process.
No. However we will choose the idea which we see have great potential and can benefit of the program.
There is no specific structure required, make sure to describe your idea so that uninvolved students can understand what it is about. Make it interesting and promote your idea among friends and family.
You are the owner of your start-up idea. However, please be aware that you will have to publish it through cofoundme.org. Only share as much information as you feel comfortable sharing. We have chosen this public measure to ensure that the idea holders are willing to share their idea with other students and to realize it with them. Always keep in mind: it is not so much the idea itself that determines success or failure, but the execution of it. That's why you need a great team.
The program is designed for very early-stage ideas, existing, funded ideas or start-ups are not allowed. For those start-ups, we offer the START Accelerator program.
Yes, we are pragmatic when it comes to define what is considered early-stage. If you have a prototype, and tested it on customers to get a first feedback, you are still welcome. If you have a validated product and a team, you suit better to our accelerator programme. If you are still unsure, contact us.
Since we want you to focus on putting all your energy and effort into your venture, we organise transportation, housing and meals. The only thing we expect from you is to pay for your flight ticket.
